Sciatica

Sciatica can cause pain that travels from the lower back into the hip, leg, or foot, sometimes making everyday movement uncomfortable or limited. Whether symptoms develop gradually or begin after an injury, our focus is on understanding the source of symptoms and how they affect daily function.

Why Sciatica Occurs

Sciatica occurs when nerves in the lower spine become irritated or sensitive. Symptoms may include sharp, aching, or burning pain, as well as tingling or numbness that travels down one leg.

Nerve irritation may be influenced by disc involvement, joint changes, or narrowing within the spine that affects how nerves move or tolerate pressure.

Sciatica symptoms may develop gradually or occur suddenly following injury, including motor-vehicle collisions. Your evaluation focuses on identifying the source of nerve irritation, understanding how symptoms affect daily activities, and determining what type of care may be appropriate based on examination findings.

How We Treat Sciatica

Your care is based on clinical findings from your initial evaluation and your individual response to care. When appropriate, management of your condition may include:

  • Spinal Manipulation ("Adjustments")

  • Manual Therapy

  • Therapeutic Exercise

  • Therapeutic Activities

  • Electrical and Therapeutic Modalities

  • Re-evaluation

Treatment methods are selected based on examination findings and updated as response to care is assessed over time.

What to Expect

Following your initial evaluation, care is directed toward addressing pain, movement limitations, and functional capacity based on examination findings. Response to care is monitored regularly, and care plans are modified based on clinical findings and patient tolerance.

If additional evaluation, imaging, or referral is indicated, this will be discussed as part of your care plan. Care is guided by what’s needed, with clear communication at each stage.

Optional Support & Self-Care

In some cases, general wellness options may be discussed as an adjunct to care. These options are not required, are not part of treatment, and are reviewed only when relevant to a patient’s individual presentation and personal preferences.

For patients who choose to explore these options, professional-grade supplements and self-care items can be accessed through Atlanta Back & Body’s secure product store
